Experience seamless dental visits with Sedation Dentistry

Sedation is an option to ensure comfort and calmness during a dental visit.

At Gallatin Valley Pediatric Dentistry, we understand that not all kids are the same. Therefore, not all pediatric dental appointments will be the same. Due to anxiety, stress, and special health care needs, some children may require sedation prior to their dental exam. Our dentist will be happy to sit and talk with you about sedation dentistry options to help determine what might be the best course of action for your child.

Nitrous Oxide

We use Nitrous oxide, sometimes called “laughing gas,” to help children become more comfortable during certain procedures. Nitrous oxide is a safe and effective sedative agent that is mixed with oxygen and inhaled through a small mask that fits over your nose to help you relax. It is not intended to put them to sleep but instead is designed to help them feel calm and comfortable. The effects of nitrous oxide are temporary and wear off soon after the mask is removed.

General Anesthesia

In some cases, general anesthesia may be recommended for children. This is a type of sedation where your child is put completely to sleep for the duration of their treatment. General anesthesia is typically reserved for children who need a lengthy or complex treatment. It may also be recommended if your child has a condition that prohibits them from being able to cooperate or follow instructions, or if your child’s procedure cannot otherwise be performed safely.
